DESCRIPTION: APW - Illinois, Washington Watch Co, Lafayette, 24J, 18S, coin silver and gold-filled HC recase with attractive rose and green gold detail including a bouquet within an urn to rear, initialed shield to front, nickel cuvette, white enamel DS Gothic numeral dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, capped third wheel, jeweled barrel arbor, nickel damascene, s#1704676. A rare top grade private label sold by the Montgomery Ward & Co, the total production of this Bunn Special grade 24 jewel hunting case Lafayette is believed to be only approximately 210 made.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scratches to main plate around plate screws, scratch to visible portion of barrel, mild oxide to regulator assembly, balance jewel setting is a brass replacement, balance cock screw is a replacement with a flat head, case screws are mismatched with one having a flat head and the other a rounded head; dial with fracture to lower-left corner of center section and segment in corner appears to have been secured with glue, fracture to center section below hands, light hl in center section, outer chapter hls between 8 and 9, outer chapter hl at 6, scratch at 4, small areas of mild wispy haze in glaze reflection when viewed at angle; fair hour and minute hands with oxide and near complete finish loss, fine seconds-hand; case with side-to-side play at rear hinge which appears to have a broken pin, case front opens slightly wide of 90 degrees (closer to 100 degrees), cuvette opens wide of 90 degrees, case shows medium wear, abrasion to lower-right rear shoulder, front with scratch-like indentation to right of center, scratches to cuvette, some scattered dings throughout, reduced engraving detail, band with strips of wear to brass, pendant with spots of wear to brass, rose gold details with areas of loss with the most notable at left side of front shield which also has some pitting, green gold details nearly fully lost with only faint traces remaining, bezel is entirely worn to brass; tight bow, replacement crown shows very little wear and has a bit of excess up/down play; good glass crystal.
